CHAMPIONSHIP SUNDAY!

Woke up early feeling ready to go! I honestly couldn't sleep at all, it’s been a while since I’ve been in a Championship Sunday event and it was so exciting! It felt like the night before Christmas for me and all I could think about is waking up and seeing what Santa brought!

When I woke up I passed a barber shop with an insane hair style and I thought 'why not change the cheetah hair to something new!?' I went in and three hours later I have a new fresh cut with some red and green stars. I thought it was time to rest the cheetah for a little and try another look!

Ended up being a good luck charm for me because Bobbi and I won the tournament! We had a great battle against two great competitors and friends! Feels so good to have that gold medal swinging around our necks!

Our last day in Vietnam, we decided to go get some food and drinks to celebrate! Around 10 p.m. our 7 a.m. flight got canceled and changed to 11:45 p.m. We weren’t even mad about it because we got to sleep in and hit the town! The city was popping, the food was great and the markets were a hustle! These Vietnamese workers won’t back down in the bargains but we eventually won the price battle hahaha!

After a fun day we are in the airport and waiting to head to APP Kansas City which will be our 9th and last stop of this crazy journey, which began in Chicago!

Waking up feeling every bone aching in my body, I knew today was gonna be a battle physically on and off the court. Today we had a tough battle where Callan and I lost in our opening round 11-9 in the third game. Hats off to the other team they played great today. Definitely feeling the body after these last two months on the road but gotta push through when it gets tough out there. Getting old sucks! On the bright side I got to watch Glauka and Kat make it to Championship Sunday! It is Glauka's first Championship Sunday so I am very excited for her. She has been working very hard! Excited to watch her battle tomorrow.

As you have seen in the photos and journey, Domi and I have been staying together at an Airbnb this week for the D-Joy tournament and we will be facing each other tomorrow in the Championship Sunday mixed doubles match! I am excited to battle against her because we will be in front of each other as I will be playing on the left and she will be playing on the right! I will definitely bring my shield because there are definitely gonna be balls going at my face throat and chest...hopefully not my jewels lol. It will be an amazing match!

Even though today wasn’t the best day in men’s doubles, I still had a great time hanging out with my crew/team. It makes a big difference when you get to travel with a group of people that are great friends. Even when you have bad days, even when you have good days, you always have a strong atmosphere surrounding you!

The best part about tomorrow is we are all in Championship Sunday!!

"Gritty” is the word of the day!

Day two at the APP D-Joy tournament in Vietnam! Between the monsoons flooding the venue, eating chicken, eyeballs, and winning our semifinal match to play on championship Sunday, what an eventful day!

In the morning, I was able to grab some breakfast and get ready to play this afternoon. I really like the schedules here we get to kind of wake up, get our day started and then start competing in the afternoon.

The D-Joy venue is pretty cool. They have an academy that is run out of here so I was able to walk inside and check it out before I did an interview for their documentary. It’s crazy to see how big pickleball is out here. It just keeps exploding day by day.

Today was very long and tough on the pickleball court. We battled a lot of great teams to make it to Championship Sunday. I played alongside Bobbi Oshiro which was an honor! I’ve actually asked her to play for the last three years and we finally played together all the way in Vietnam hahaha but what a way to start our first time partnership! Excited to battle on Sunday again!

Going to dinner at night we went to a little local spot next to the venue and we ate a lot of great local food, including a whole chicken that became the topic of the night. My wife Glauka bet Domi and Bobbi they would not eat the eyeballs out of the chicken and little did we know they popped them out and ate them for $50 lol it was an experience, I will tell you that! We have a pretty fun group to travel with!

After a long day, I ended up getting a massage because this old body is getting beat up day after day! But the icing on top of the cake was when I stopped at the market and got some ice cream! I think I definitely deserve that after the long grinding matches!

Tomorrow is men’s doubles. I’m excited to get on court with Callan Dawson. We have played one tournament in the past and did really well so I really enjoy sharing the court with him. He is also a surfer so the vibes are unreal!

Good morning, Vietnam! We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on Tuesday to get ready for the D-Joy tournament! Little did I know I had to play two singles matches, two mixed matches and two men’s matches. As people would say, it’s like going back in time into the Roman times and jumping into a gladiator pit fighting to the death! Between the heat, humidity and tough Asia competition, I battled through the day and made all of my rounds. It’s crazy how tough the competition was out here and with very little insight I didn’t know any of my opponents all day. I thought Da Nang was hot and sweaty….sh**ttttttt.

Ho Chi Minh City is the real killer. After a long day, I went to go eat with Glauka, Kat and Domi for some all-you-can-eat Korean barbecue! I have been on the road with these ladies for the last two weeks and I’ll tell you I’ve learned a lot on and off the court being surrounded by women 24/7 lol.

The food here has been amazing and for an amazing price ha ha I could get very used to living out here. After stuffing my face for an hour, I decided to go get a nice massage because after a long day these old bones need some TLC - “tender love and care” baby! After an amazing massage for like $10… 😂 we jumped on a grab motorbike, which is the same as Uber in the US, but since the traffic is horrible here you jump on little mopeds and scoot around town. It's very hectic but if you don’t want to spend two hours in traffic, you have to do it. So all you do is just close your eyes and hope for the best ha ha ha. Time to get some rest and wake up for singles day tomorrow. Still have no idea who I am playing, but everyone is very good. I had to play three games each match so I am hoping to only play two, but the way the odds are of how good these guys are I might be going to the distance tomorrow! Excited to be in Vietnam for the last battle of my Asia trip! Stay tuned, people, the story is just beginning!
